Universal Products launches EcoSigns, an eco-friendly alternative for flex

With the Kerala High Court banning use of flex and other non-biodegradable materials, Bengaluru based Universal Products has launched an eco-friendly alternative for flex under the brand name of EcoSigns. Addressing a media conference, Dipen Mehta, Managing Director, Universal Products, said that the fully recyclable PE EcoSigns and EcoSigns Biodegradable can be used for campaign in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Dipen Mehta stated that it’s the first time an alter native for flex is launched in India. “Our products are 100% PVC-free, 100% recyclable, and biodegradable as per the IS/ISO 15985 report. The products do not emit any hazardous gases when it comes in contact with chemicals like solvent ink and it is scientifically
proven.”He added that the products are safe for both people and environment.

The Union Ministry of Environment has already passed policies for solid waste management to ban all one-time use plastic and non-recyclable materials by 2020. It stipulates that recyclable polyethylene should be used instead of PVC flex. Dipen Mehta said that the acceptance of EcoSigns, which does not
have any hazardous effects, has been growing. Many corporate firms, advertising and printing agencies are already using EcoSigns. The product is not only eco-friendly but the printing quality on the same is very high, he added.

‘Ecosigns Biodegradable’ partially biodegrades in 68 days and would take another 14 to 15 months to get fully biodegraded. The company currently has a production capacity of 40,000 sqm per day with maximum width of 5 feet, said Dipen Mehta, adding that the company is planning to increase the production capacity to 1,20,000 sqm per day with a width of 10.5 sqm. Dipen Mehta further said that they developed the novel product with a vision to save the environment. He expressed the hope that all the corporate firms will opt eco-friendly EcoSigns for their campaigns.
